The Timeskip timeline is a Quest for Glory timeline based on the Timeskip concept, Tetralogy concept , Multiyear concept, and Paradox concept. It overlaps the QFG5 timeline and QFG4 timeline. This is inspired by Corey Cole's preferred timeline as originally intended in the development Bible (see Production timeline).
The Mordavia History of Events: A Time Line and Tour Guide to the City of Silmaria are in sync with this timeline. Boris left Olga right after QFG2, and Tanya's kidnapping a year later, and the series taking place over many years.
Background[]
In this timeline Gloriana's time and Earth's time are in sync, with events of each QFG game corresponding to its real world release date, with timeskips between each game. Note: This doesn't necessarily mean that Gloriana corresponds to same exact year as earth only that an approximately ten-year period occurred in-universe and in the Production timeline. Gloriana itself appears to be a century or two behind Earth's timeline (with Cranium being ancestor of Dr. Brain three generations back, with Castle taking place approximately in 1991).
A timeskip in defined as instance of fast-forwarding a substantial amount of time, such as years or decades, as a narrative device in a story, quickly aging characters and developing events.
Based on the development history one year passed between QFG1 and 2. 2 years passed between QFG2 and QFG3. 1 year between QFG3 and 4. Finally, a whopping five years took place between QFG4 and QFG5. All in all about ten years accounts for the many years between QFG1 and QFG5 as mentioned in Tour Guide to the City of Silmaria, and QFG5 timeline.
- The story has been developing for nearly ten years in the form of Quest for Glory, or the Hero's Quest. It started with a simple request from a dire need; a post on a bulletin board that stated: Hero Wanted. So you want to be a hero?[1]
This timeline followed the Coles idea that the games follow more or less the same amount of time as each game was released over roughly 9-10 year period with characters aging between games.
- It took us ten years to create the original Quest for Glory series, and in our minds that's how much time passed in the games.
- Game time matching real time works well for the way we thought of time passing in the series.
Hence each game represents a timeskip from each previous game.
The idea that several years passed between games may go back to some of the earlier concept materials related to the Tetralogy concept. Depending on how symbolic or how literal the concept was intended.
Some aspects of the concept such as idea that hero grew from being an adolescent into young man, into an adult, and finally a mature adventurer over the course of the stories could imply longer period of time passing (much in same way KQ reboot uses theme of seasons but show Graham age throughout his lifetime).
This is ultimately reflected in published in QFG lore: According to QFG5 many years passed between QFG1 and QFG5.
- You first crossed paths with Elsa von Spielburg during your early years as a hero.
- Erasmus the wizard is known the world over as a whiz of a wiz. You have known him for many years, and have long admired his "Spelling."
There are odd references to Hero taking breaks from his adventures to do mundane things 'between games' such as visiting his dentist, healer, and personal accountant. There are a couple of mentions of his dentist appointments. It also explains him changing clothes, or replacing his clothes between games.
Corey Cole says:
- Ref the timeline between 4 and 5, while I haven't put much previous thought into it, we could look at it like this - The hero is a trouble-shooter who is called in when and where a hero is needed. After effectively saving the world in QG4, he gets a well-earned rest because there are no world-shaking disasters going on. He probably lives well, helps kittens out of trees, and minor hero stuff like that. The assassination of King Justinian is a major event that suggests even worse things happening. So the hero is pulled out of semi-retirement (or really just non-heroic daily life) to put on the cape again. Or whatever was his costume in QGV. To save Silmaria, and possible the world, because that's what heroes do.
- The corollary to, "Never compare your daily life to someone else's highlight reel," is that the hero has a daily life that isn't exciting enough to retell in games. The Quest for Glory games are his highlight reel.
- That doesn't mean it's a bad life - It's probably a great one. Just not enough stuff going on that people would want to replay it.
The Hero was once known as the Part-time Hero as a reference to the Production timeline and the period between games.

Behind the scenes[]
Corey has in past suggested simply ignoring the three months and three days reference in QFG3 as being unimportant to their original intent see Multiyear concept and Tetralogy concept. However this timeline keeps the reference but reinterprets it as the point of the Timeskip event. This suggestion was discussed with Corey and seen as a valid interpretation that maintains both game references and original intent of the designers.
There are a couple of sticky points related to Hero's being whisked away by transportation spells between games...
The first of these occurs in QFG3, in the game from Hero's perspective he enters Kreesha's portal according to the game three months and three days after events of Quest For Glory 2... however later sources including Tour Guide to the City of Silmaria and the Coles themselves suggest that main events of QFG3 may have occurred many years later... Even within the game itself are other paradoxal/time discrepancies such as the Money Changer saying he moved to Tarna many years ago right after Ad Avis took over, yet according to QFG2/QFG1VGA that only happened 1 year before QFG2.
This could essentially create a paradox in which Kreesha either cast spell very early in the timeline and it took years for the Hero, and friends to make it to Tarna (time dilation involved) or she cast it in the future and pulled them from the past into the future several years later. In fact one comment by kreesha could imply that that the ritual takes her years to prepare and isn't something she casts off the cuff.
Additionally her home exists in magic plane (Realm of Wizards) apparently outside of normal time and space, which may affect her spells in relation to regular flow of time as well.
In addition, the Tour Guide to the City of Silmaria also implies that there were many adventures between QFG2 and QFG4 perhaps suggesting that either hero and Rakeesh had many adventures in three-month period (assuming that period isn't retconned and removed from the timeline or that during the years that the transportation may have taken place that the Hero and Rakeesh were able to make stops and detours to save other places before the reaching the final destination in Kreesha's dimension.
In addition understanding that Kreesha's dimension exists outside of regular space-time might brush away other teleportation issues such as if hero is transported to Kreesha mid-game or characters transported to the Lost City late in the game. Since from their perspective it didn't take very long (ingame time).
Secondly is the transportation event between QFG3 and QFG4 between Tarna and Mordavia. Among oddities is Mordavia History of Events: A Time Line placing the casting of the spell in the future but Hero being first transported in the past before the spell was cast. Another paradoxal oddity is that according to the QFG4 technical manual the hero apparently had a chance to stop and pick up a copy of the HERO: The Journal of General Job Adjusting: Issue IV along the way before he reached Mordavia several years later... Then he finds another copy of the same issue in the Mordavian Adventurer's Guild that was several years (possibly even a decade old) as mentioned in the game and Quest for Glory: The Authorized Strategy Guide, showing yet another evidence of a paradox. See also QFG4 timeline and QFG4CD timeline.
Finally there is the final transportation spell between QFG4 and QFG5 in which unspecified period of time passed between games. The spell may have started as early as a year before QFG5 (when Justianian was killed) but the Hero doesn't reach Silmaria until a year or more after the murder. Meanwhile, Rakeesh has aged greatly over the years since they last met and it's been many years since QFG1, see QFG5 timeline.

My forefathers once ruled Marete, and you believe that I would hire forces to destroy Silmaria, that I would..." Famous Adventurer: "Minos had been advisor for the late King for a year or so."
- ↑ The Swim Manual was copyrighted one year before QFG5. "The books all seem to be manuals titled, "How to Swim." They were written by "The Famous Adventurer," copyright last year by Famous Adventurer's Correspondence School Publishing."
- ↑ Checking out the items on the board, you see an announcement for last year's E4: Expert Existential Explorer's Expedition. The convention had Prof. Grant Gottfield's famous lecture on "Future Fieldtrips to Fricana" and "South Fricana Safaris" with Henk Malan.
- ↑ Ugarte is a minor business associate of Senor Ferrari, the proprietor of the Dead Parrot Inn. They both arrived from Rasier earlier this year. Other than that, we know little about him."
- ↑ "Several months back, my people were attacked by ships sailing from the port of Silmaria. Four-legged Wizards would cast spells at Tritons, and the sailors cast nets to drag the seafolk to their deaths."
- ↑ For several months now, the ships of Silmaria have been under attack by the Tritons -- the half-men, half-fish sea folk. Fishing and sea trade with other kingdoms have ceased. Marete has been virtually isolated from the outside world, except for magic."
- ↑ Erasmus (QFG5): "After you and Baba Yaga left Spielburg, it started getting a bit dull there. I puttered around for a while, then decided to come down here to Silmaria for the winter." Fenris: The infestation of several thousand baby Antwerps had nothing to do with it, I'm sure."
- ↑ Bruno..."He came here a few months back."
- ↑ And the month before that, Pholus displayed his typesetter. It was quite a bench press. This is a good place for fiscal fitness.
- ↑ Why, just last month, Gnome Ann had her best seashells on display in the bank to invite people to stay at her Inn. It was quite a fine Ann's shell Inn-to-toot!
- ↑ Looking better than last month's model!

He is a Hero. Silmaria needs a Hero right now. And everyone knows a Hero has to go where a Hero has to go." 2 6 6 9 99 Fenris says, "Let's hope he knows that. Just make sure you use the right spell to Teleport him. The last time you tried this, you brought the clothes, and left the person behind." 2 6 6 10 99 Erasmus says, "This time, for sure!"
- ↑ Andre (QFGV): "I'm to study with Julanar in the Spring." FA: Come the spring, and I'm off flying north like the birds. You interested in a job as Famous Adventurer while I'm gone?
- ↑ Congratulations! You have found the world famous money tree! On second thought, better leave it alone, while you still have the shirt on your back. (QFG1VGA)
- ↑ Amelia Earhart. She'll be here a couple of centuries from now. Come back then." (QFG1VGA)
- ↑ Thank You, Master. Now I can take Iblis back to his tomb where he will be safe for another Thousand Years and a Year.
- ↑ It looks a lot like a map of Gondwanaland right after the Wild Party of '42.
- ↑ I can make you a great deal on a hubcap from a fifty-seven chevy. You could make a great shield out of it!
