== Background==
The Coles were given the option of making their game in SCI EGA (being the last Sierra game to use parser and EGA graphics engine), or instead wait until the flagship release of King's Quest V (which was first Sierra Point 'n' Click with VGA graphics), and be able to release their game the same year later with the new interface, graphics, and engine. The Coles chose to release the game early, and meet the Christmas deadline.

:"The VGA/EGA for QG2 was a bad decision on our part. We were asked whether we wanted to have the game out that year in time for Christmas, or wait until after KQ shipped the following year. We figured that if we shipped with KQ, we would get no marketing and would be lost in the shuffle. After the name change, we wanted to get our second game out as soon as possible to try to recapture the audience, and that would take publicity from Sierra. We had no clue what an impact 256 color would have on the marketplace. Needless to say, it blew all the older games out of the water."-Lori Cole

While [[Quest for Glory I: So You Want to Be a Hero (VGA)|''Quest for Glory I: So You Want to Be a Hero'']] turned out to be Sierra's most successful, and profitable remake (arguably contesting with ''Mixed-Up Mother Goose VGA''/''Mixed-Up Mother Goose Multimedia'' CD-ROM), they did not sell well enough for the company to continue the line with a ''Quest for Glory II VGA'' remake. It is said that people didn't like them that well, and compared them to recolorizing black & white films (a controversial concept at the time). They cancelled all future plans for remakes. Only ''Mixed-Up Mother Goose'' would receive a SVGA remake in the release of ''Mixed-Up Mother Goose Deluxe'' a few years later.
==Legacy==
''Trail by Fire'' is the only game in the series to not be originated or remade beyond the EGA graphics engine by Sierra. On August 24, 2008, [[AGD Interactive]] developed and released an unofficial remake, ''[[Quest for Glory II: Trial by Fire Remake (AGDI)]]'', as a freeware game using the [[Adventure Game Studio]] engine.
