While its cave is seen almost as soon as the game begins, the Pit Horror is a monster that appears only towards the endgame of Quest for Glory 4 with the Essence Ritual lying besides it.
Game interaction[]
The hero must get the ritual but is free to choose how to do so, depending purely on available abilities and skills. While all classes get the same Puzzle Points for grabbing the ritual any way they want, only the Fighter gets points for killing the monster (and only if it's done in combat). Also, only pure thieves can use sneak mode to avoid the monster altogether.
Therefore, any combination of the following is possible (for example, weakening the monster with magic, only then engaging in combat), but in theory:
- A Fighter and Paladin are supposed to use the Rope and Grapnel to climb down to the monster to automatically fight it (till death), then climb the same way up. They can throw daggers on the monsters from afar first, but not rocks, to have an easier combat mode.
- The Wizard is supposed to either:
- Cast Calm or Dazzle, then Fetch the ritual from afar.
- Cast Calm or Dazzle, then Levitate down to get the ritual and levitate up to the other side.
- Cast any of multiple Flame Dart, Force Bolt, Lightning Ball and Frost Bite spells until the monster is dead, then Levitate down to get the ritual and levitate up to the other side.
- A non hybrid Thief is supposed to enter sneak mode, then use the Rope and Grapnel to climb down, grab the ritual and climb the same way up.
Combat[]
While the hero can attack the monster from afar, the monster can only fight back when engaged in combat mode.
Once in combat mode, despite its sheer size the monster prefers to stay back and use projectiles to attack (whether it's a painful substance or pure magic is unknown). Only if the hero comes aggressively close, the monster uses its sharp tentacles.
Glitches[]
Looking at the Pit Horror's cave suggests the pit horror is still inside there even though it's outside right in front of you.
