The Dragon of Doom was an immensely powerful magical creation believed to be unstoppable. It is the ultimate antagonist which the Hero fights with allies in Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire.
Background[]
A few dragons are manifestations of great magical energy that draws power from acts of evil. Blood sacrifice feeds them, and they increase in strength and fury as long as they remain in their lairs. When these fierce creatures achieve the fullness of their power, they break free of their bindings, and wreak devastation throughout the land.
Ages ago, the Temple of Flames gave birth to such evil an evil dragon.
Marete was attacked by such a being, rumored to be the Dragon which destroyed Atlantis. The most powerful Wizards of the lands worked together to create the magical bindings known as the Dragon Pillars. The Dragon of Doom was driven beneath the Temple to the northeast of Mount Draconis. A Prophecy Stone was created to seal the Dragon within the Temple. As long as the Dragon Pillars stand and the Prophecy Stone remains intact, the Dragon of Doom will never again rise to destroy Silmaria.
Its initial attack on the Med Sea was so ferocious that the mages of Atlantis sank their city and became Tritons to escape it. One the island of Marete, the Wizards created the Dragon Pillars to bind the Dragon of Doom. It settled into a sleep at the Dragon Blood Pool, where a temple was constructed around it to imprison it. It was then bound by the Prophecy Stone.
Centuries later, the Prophecy Stone fell into the hands of Minos. He learned how to release the dragon and hired an assassin to spill innocent blood on them and break the bindings on the Dragon. Eventually faced with defeat and confronting the Hero and Elsa von Spielburg, Minos broke the Prophecy Stone and unleashed the Dragon.
According to prophecy, only if someone willingly sacrificed their life to the Dragon could it be destroyed. Yet the heroes of Silmaria -- including Toro and Gort -- bravely fought the Dragon, fixing one of the Dragon Pillars and ultimately destroying it.

Notes[]
- It is not known why the Dragon was created, but it is known that it was a powerful creature of fire infused with energy of destruction, anger, and hatred.
- There is a vague reference of the House of Minos (King Minos) being forced out of his kingdom and vowing to take revenge, some centuries back which might coincide with the events of the rise of the Dragon.
- It is possible to kill the Dragon of Doom without a sacrifice. Alternatively, the wizard can cast Thermonuclear Blast and sacrifice everyone for a hundred miles.
- Katrina will not allow a sacrifice to occur if she is present, and romancing The Hero. She reasons that evil gets stronger when it feeds, so it should be starved. If not romanced, she honors your choice to bravely sacrifice yourself.
- Elsa will not sacrifice herself, stating that if she will die against the Dragon, she will do so fighting. If no sacrifices are made, but the hero is victorious in battle, Elsa will speculate that the Dragon was in so much pain that it willingly sacrificed itself just to die.
- Toro normally will not sacrifice himself, unless you're romancing Elsa.
- If the Hero is engaged to Erana, she will sacrifice herself if he says he's going to, or if he tells her to. If the Hero is engaged at all, Gort may intervene and sacrifice himself, however it's easy to instead sacrifice yourself regardless as Gort walks very slowly.
- Erana, Katrina, or Fenris transports the heroes to the final fight. Fenris does not remain for the battle, but Erana offers healing magic. Katrina offers a powerful Dragon Frost spell (presumably a variant of Dragon Fire (spell) that shoots ice magic instead of fire, that is unavailable to the player) as the Dragon of Doom is immune to fire magic.
