Quest for Glory Omnipedia

Dahab Khalis is the money changer of Tarna.

Description[]

You see an elderly, but distinguished-looking man wearing a turban.

Background[]

Dahab was once the money changer of Raseir. Many years ago when Ad Avis took over, he moved with his family to Tarna. His family was very happy there.

In Tarna, Khalis operates his business, "Khali's [sic] Money Exchange", from a cashier-window located in the far north of the bazaar. The hero will first encounter him during an attempted theft upon him perpetrated by Harami. After Harami finishes escaping the scene, Khalis immediately returns to his business as usual, wherein he will offer to purchase the hero's Shapeir Golden Dinars and exchange them for Tarna royals and commons.

Personality and traits[]

Khalis does not often deal in local gossip; when questioned about rumors, he will state his views on possible catalysts of currency fluctuation in other nations until he realizes that the hero is asking about local rumors.

He claims that name means "fine gold" in the language of the Middle East.

Behind the scenes[]

The hero starts with 200 foreign currency, the exchange rate is 1:1, and the money changer takes 10%, which is supposed to leave the hero with 180 royals.

Alas, if the hero already had local money at the point of exchange (by killing monsters outside the city), he is still left with just 180 royals.

Trivia[]

  • ذهب (dhahab) means "gold" in Arabic, though it may be written as دهب (dahab) in the Egyptian regional dialect.
  • خالص (khāliṣ) means "sincere" or "pure" in Arabic.
